Why I Moved to New Zealand: My Immigration Story


When I was deciding what to do after I graduated from high school, I had two basic criteria in mind: I wanted to live abroad in an English-speaking country and have the opportunity to travel.

 After some research, I decided that New Zealand would be the perfect place to do both of these things, as well as explore my interest in wildlife conservation and marine biology since the country is known for its excellent research institutions and beautiful ocean views. I moved to Christchurch, New Zealand with my family when I was 18 years old, and I haven’t looked back since. Here’s why I made that decision.

I remember the day I was awarded my visa with Immigration New Zealand. It was one of the best days of my life and it made all the hard work worth it. We picked up our visas from the Auckland office just before Christmas, which meant we could spend Christmas in NZ! After obtaining my NZ work permit, it was necessary for me to apply for residency in the country. This is an application that takes between six months and two years to process.


 With my current visa set to expire in July 2020, I had no choice but to proceed with the application. Christchurch Immigration Health 2022 was introduced by my local MP and took effect on December 1st, 2018.
